The proportion of the rescue spent doing compressions rather than paused. Higher is better; it is what RapidShock and the CPR Dashboard protect.

Release velocity

How quickly the chest is allowed to recoil between compressions. Recorded by the AED 3 BLS for post-event clinical review.

Which ZOLL AED is right for your site?

ZOLL AED Plus — the bystander device. ZOLL describes the AED Plus as setting the benchmark for design, dependability, durability and performance. Only half of sudden cardiac arrest victims initially need a shock, but all of them need high-quality CPR, so the device gives real-time feedback through simple audio and visual prompts: a compression depth indicator, voice prompts and an adaptive metronome that helps a rescuer keep compressions at an adequate rate. ZOLL reports that its defibrillators with Real CPR Help, combined with training, more than double an SCA victim's chance of survival. The one-piece CPR-D-padz electrode is designed for fast, accurate placement and arrives with a rescue accessory kit containing scissors, gloves and a mask. An IP55 rating covers extreme temperature, altitude, vibration and shock, and off-the-shelf Duracell 123A batteries give five-year battery life. Pediatric support is available separately with Pedi-padz electrodes for children up to eight years old or under 25 kg.

ZOLL AED 3 — the public-access device. The AED 3 is designed to give unexpected heroes the confidence to act. It adds a full-color LCD touchscreen with vivid rescue images, a CPR cycle timer and a large color bar gauge that shows compression depth in real time. RapidShock analysis provides what ZOLL describes as the industry's shortest rhythm analysis, allowing a shock to be delivered in as little as five seconds, which keeps pause time to a minimum. Pediatric rescue is integrated: the universal CPR Uni-padz electrodes treat an adult or a child, and a child mode is activated on the same pad set — "prepared to help whether the victim is 7 or 70 years old." Optional Wi-Fi reports device status automatically, and a five-year smart battery reports its own power status.

ZOLL AED 3 BLS — the professional device. Built for pre-hospital crews, the AED 3 BLS adds a CPR Dashboard that displays numerical compression depth, rate and cycle time, alongside a monitor showing patient ECG, shock count and total elapsed time. Post-event data on rate, depth, release velocity and compression fraction can be exported through RescueNet EventSummary over USB or Wi-Fi, so a clinical lead can review the rescue rather than rely on recollection.
